Our Story
Overstone produces fine wine from the major wine producing regions - Hawke's Bay and Marlborough. In Hawke's Bay the vineyard sites are on river gravel silts with slightly different climatic characteristics suited to different grape varieties and wine styles. The warm, free draining vineyards around the winery are planted on the gravel deposits of an old river valley and provide the Merlot based red wines. Further inland, on a dry river gravel terrace 100 metres higher in altitude, the cooler vineyard site produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes.
In addition to wines from its Hawke's Bay vineyards, Overstone produces Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, the internationally renowned premium region for the production of classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Overstone has an exclusive focus on producing fine wine. It maintains the highest standard in environmentally sustainable viticultural and winemaking practices, producing handcrafted wines which reflect the unique characteristics of the vineyard regions.
The Winery
Overstone is made at a state-of-the-art facility which is designed to crush 2000 tonnes of fruit using both high-tech and traditional winemaking methods. Gentle air-bag presses and temperature controlled tanks give precise control of grape juice quality, while open top red wine fermenters and cool barrel cellars provide for more time-honoured techniques.
